Apple or Pear, You May Stand A Chance to Win RM1,000!

Are you an apple or a pear?

Most women generally fall into a single body shape classification- the apple shape or the pear shape. Both apple and pear have significant implications for both health and weight loss.

To determine whether a person is an apple or pear, measurement of waist to hip ratio will be taken into account. A ratio of 0.8 or above indicates that you are an apple shape. A ratio of under 0.8 means you are a pear shape.

What to expect for an APPLE shaped?


With an apple shaped body, you will expect a full chest, upper back with no or little waist definition. Some might appear top heavy and the bust and mid-riff might appear bigger than the hips.

Celebrities who are known to have an apple body shape are our favourite post-pregnant Angelina Jolie (a very thin apple), Jennifer Hudson, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Elizabeth Hurley.

Another sign indicates that you’re an apple is when you gain weight, the fat gets easily stored around your upper half, especially around your midsection. However, this does not always mean a person with apple body shape is overweight. Many people have mistakenly related an apple body shape to curvy, often overweight people.


Celebrities like Angelina Jolie and Elizabeth Hurley who have this shape in thinner version are the good examples. If you are a thinner apple, your body shape resembles rectangle and inverted triangle because of your wider upper body.

Apple shaped women have more fats surrounding their internal organs and are prompt to decrease insulin sensitivity, increase blood pressure and decrease levels of good (HDL) cholesterol. These are the key indicators of heart diseases and diabetes risk. The higher the waist to hip ration, the higher the risk.

How to know if you are a PEAR?




Carry your body fat around the hips, thighs and buttocks suggest that you may have a pear shaped body. A pear shaped woman will generally have a smaller upper body with smaller breasts and heavier lower body.


This body shape tends to be curvy and feminine. Celebrities who are famous for their curves are Beyonce, Shakira, Jennifer Lopez and our favourite desperate housewife- Eva Longoria! Believe it or not even the world most famous skinny heiress, Paris Hilton has a pear shape body.

This body shape is mostly predominant in women and not common among men. Women with pear shape bodies tend to have cellulite on both thighs and bottoms. It was previously a good news for being a pear shape in terms of health. However, in a recently published study showed that pears have their problems too. Researchers studied 50,000 men and women and found that women with a pear shape were significantly more likely to suffer from a blood clot even if they were otherwise of normal weight. Blood clots are dangerous because they have the potential to travel to the lungs leading to a pulmonary embolus which could be fatal.
